Admit it. When you saw that headline your first thought was to pull up Shirley Maclaine’s New Age blog and start streaming Yanni on Spotify. Uh, that’s not what we’re talking about at Providence Plastic Surgery & Skin Center in Charlotte.
We’re talking about using crystals to abrade the top layer of your skin. Think of it as a light sandblasting. That’s sounds extreme, but that’s the idea behind microdermabrasion. Instead of removing unwanted stains or paint, you’re removing the dull, lifeless external layer of your epidermis. Microdermabrasion exposes the glowing, fresh skin underneath.
Microdermabrasion at Providence is a great way to keep your facial skin exfoliated and vibrant looking.

How microdermabrasion works
At Providence our microdermabrasion treatments are very effective and very easy to take, with no downtime. They are non-invasive and non-surgical. Microdermabrasion involves the use of aluminum oxide or sodium chloride crystals to exfoliate the skin surface. The crystals are sprayed onto the skin through a wand that also suctions back the crystals and any dead skin that has been removed. The degree of exfoliation is determined by the amount of suction used, along with the number of passes made over an area.
Each of our microdermabrasion sessions includes both the face and the neck. We recommend a series of six sessions to enhance skin hydration, sebum production, and texture. Appointments are spaced two to three weeks apart to allow the skin to recover. No anesthesia or numbing agents are necessary.
